Responsibilities

  • Create design concepts, prototypes, and mockups for mobile and web interfaces designed around New Jersey residents' needs
  • Build visual frameworks such as design sketches, wireframes, and journey maps that guide product development
  • Lead end-to-end user research using modern practices and tools to surface key insights and solutions
  • Solve complex problems through human-centered design, agile development, and data-driven decision making
  • Partner closely with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to translate UX/UI design into iteratively developed products
  • Serve as a coach and catalyst for modern design practices in visual design, UX, and UI across the team and the State

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in product design or UI/UX design; civic technology experience strongly preferred
  • Portfolio demonstrating product design work, including both process and outputs
  • Expert proficiency with Figma, including advanced prototyping, design systems, and collaboration features
  • Experience planning and conducting user research (interviews, usability testing, surveys, behavioral metrics)
  • Deep understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices, with the ability to coach others
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; background check required
